LONDON, July 31. In south China, American fighters have shot down three more Japanese fighters, which were escorting raiders to attack an airfield north of Canton.

A Chungking spokesman said today that the Japanese in the eastern provinces of Chekiang and Kiangsi were at a standstill except for the fighting .outside Wengch.ow. Japanese /orces here, to avoid encirclement, are trying to establish communications- with the coast and shipping offshore.
