EXCHANGE OF PRISONERS
(Rec. 10 a.m.) RUGBY, July 19. It is now officially stated that negotiations with the Japanese Government for the repatriation of 1800 Allied nationals from Japan, Manchuria, Siam, Indo-China, and the Philippines has been satisfactorily concluded. The exchange of these people for Japanese nationals will take place at Lourenco Marques, in Portuguese East Africa, on August 27 and September 7. There are about 550 British officials and their staffs, with their families, 200 Allied officials, 840 other British, and 210 other Allied nationals. The party will go to East Africa in two Japanese ships under safe conduct which will take back the Japanese and Siamese party. The Indians will be sent separately to India.—B.O.W.
