WENCHOW RECAPTURED
OTHER TOWNS RE«WON
LONDON, July 19. The Japanese have met with reverses at a number of points in China. The Chinese have counterattacked in Chekiang Province, and have succeeded in driving the Japanese out of the vital seaport ol Wenchow. Only ~ a week ago it was captured by strong Japanese forces with naval support from the sea. The Japanese, announcing their triumphal entry into Wenchow, described it as an important sea base for supplies bound for Chungking. Wenchow is one of the nearest Chinese ports from which Japan itself could be threatened. i Thirteen miles further down the coast the Chinese also announce the recapture of. Juian, which is also a key port. Between the' struggle for bases on the coast of Chekiang and' Nanchang, the capital of Kiangsi, the centre of bitter ■ fighting for the control of the east-west railway system, are about
300 miles of hilly country. Here, too, the Chinese report success. Just inside the Kiangsi border they have retaken two railway towns, Hengfeng and Iyang. »
