MATERNITY HOMES
SCALE OF FEES
Replying in writing in the House of Representatives yesterday to a notice of question which had been given by Mr. H. E. Combs (Government, Wellington Suburbs), the Minister of Health (Mr. Nordmeyer) said that consideration would be given to the advisability of requiring licensees of private maternity hospitals to hand to each prospective patient a card setting out the fees which she would be required to pay over and above the payments from the Social Security Fund.
The Minister explained that to require licensees as a routine to furnish this information in writing would involve an amendment to the existing contracts between the licensees and himself as Minister of Health. In the meantime, however, the Department had communicated with the licensees of all private maternity hospitals, asking them to undertake to supply all intending patients with a statement setting out the total daily charges for nursing care and maintenance and the maternity benefits payable from the Social Security Fund.
