NO RELEASE YET

TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS

In a written reply to a notice of question that had been given by the Hon. W. J. Poison, the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones), in the House of Representatives yesterday, stated that it was considered it would be inexpedient and unfair at this 6tage to allow the temporary release of training college students from Territorial camps with the view to their re-enter-ing camp during the college vacations. "It has been decided," said the Minister, "that the release from the Army of university students should be based solely on the needs and requirements of the armed forces, and therefore only those students whose work is directly concerned with the prosecution of the war (such as medical, dental, engineering, and science students) are being released. . . . The question, how-

ever, is being carefully watched, and if it should be possible at a later date, without impairing the efficiency of the armed forces, to release from full-time military service other classes of men, the claims of training college students will receive every consideration."
