SUNK IN CONVOY FIGHT

DESTROYER NESTOR

The loss of the Australian de- | stroyer Nestor in the ' Mediter- - ranean has been announced by the Minister for the Navy, Mr. N. J. O. Makin. The ship was sunk while acting as escort to a Mediterranean convoy during the fierce naval and air actions on June 15, Of the Nestor's complement of more than 200 only three were killed and one seriously injured. The Nestor was one of the Javelin class destroyers. She was commissioned in February, 1941, being manned by Australians under Commander Alford/S. Rosenthal, D.5.0., and had taken part in many operations. She was of 1690 tons displacement, and had a speed of 36 knots. Her armament comprised six 4.7 in guns, six smaller guns, and 10 21in torpedotubes.
