ON STRATEGIC LINES

ANGLO-AMERICAN OUTPUT

WASHINGTON, June 11. The British Minister of Production, Captain Oliver Lyttelton, and the chairman ot-the American War Production Board, Mr. Donald Nelson, jointly gave a Press conference when they described the newly-created British-American Production Board as a ''marriage between strategy and production." They explained that :the prime object was specialisation of respective production. For example, America will henceforth concentrate on the production of bombers and Britain on fighters, because bombers can be flown across the Atlantic, while the transport of fighters to England necessitates ships. Furthermore, the new board will focus on simplification of designs and standardisation of manufactui'ing processes. ' The board is taking orders from the Combined Chiefs of Staff Committee and will deliver the goods when and where they are needed. This will not involve any change in the operation of the lend and lease plan. Mr. Nelson said that Russia's participation in the scheme would probably be considered in the future.
