STORM DAMAGE

CITY LOAN AUTHORISED

Last night the City Council authorised the raising of the Wellington City Works Loan, 1941, for £84,000, for the repairing of storm damage. This is the third time the matter has been before the City Council. The loan will have to be approved by the Local Bodies' Loans Board.

The sum of £8000 had been spent on some of the work last year, said the Mayor, and the council. would be recouped for this from the loan. There was still a great deal to be done.

Councillor Appleton remarked that some of the work under this head was still being investigated In some cases private property was involved, and the engineer and works committee were investigating these in view of possible action.

It was stated that much of the work had been in abeyance on account of shelter and other work being done by the City Engineer's staff.
