PATRIOTIC GOLF

Affiliated golf clubs will hold an open day in aid of patriotic funds during the present season. This decision was made at the annual meeting of the Wellington Metropolitan Golf Association last evening. Mr. R. A. Whyte (Wellington) presided.

It was reported that the Karori, Rangimarie, Judgeford, and Paekakariki Clubs had been compelled to go into recess for the duration of the war owing to loss of members to the armed forces and lack of transport.

Most of the Wellington clubs, though willing to cease playing inter-club matches, had kept the golf flag flying, said the chapman/ The metropolitan association formed by Christchurch was also keeping things going.

The Hutt, Shandon, and Manor .Park representatives present offered to cooperate in inter-club games. The Watt Cup committee had discontinued its contest for the duration, said Mr. J. B. Young (Tui Glen), and the cup had been handed over to the Metropolitan Association, which had been asked to control the competition in future. It was time that the association instituted a grading of clubs, and insisted that every club should handicap its players on the same system.

It was decided to continue the annual teams-of-four match, and to thank Mr. V. A. Ward for donating a cup for this competition.

The election of officers resulted as follows: Management committee, Messrs. R. A. Whyte (Wellington), H. A. Hansen (Shandon). T. H. R. Boon (Manor Parki. J. F. Pynv (Hutt), J. B. Young (Tui Glen), J. P. Hooper (Pukerua Bay); hon. secretary-treas-urer, Mr- T. P. Davis (re-elected); hon. auditor, Mr. D. B. Aitken.
