MOTOR-CAR FEES

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —The present system of reregistering private cars served its purpose in peacetime, but with the scarcity of petrol, the system should be changed, with justice to motorists. Why not adjust the registration fee according to the amount of petrol used? The fee added to the cost of the spirit, with a limit should the usual annual fee be reached. Under the present system, there is no certainty that the car after being registered will get on the road at all.—l am, etc..

STUNG TWICE

"Cannot Register" submits that there are two classes of private cars: (1) Those used wholly for pleasure; (2) those subject to a "notice of intention to use" for various military and E.P.S purposes. Cars in the latter class are subject to control measures and the correspondent suggests that the Government should relicense them, as the community cannot afford to be without the service thus provided for.
