SERVICE CLUB REPORTS

SEAMEN WELL CARED FOR

Last week was a particularly busy one for the "Flying Angel" Missions to Seamen. It commenced with over 100 seamen having a meal there on the Sunday and being entertained with a picture show. On Monday there was a danc* on Tuesday a picture evening, on Thursday another dance, and on Saturday a boxing tournament conducted by Mr. Dunn and his gymnasium class from Moera. This Sunday the tea was provided by the members of the Pioneer Club and other hostesses during the week were Mesdames Harley Brown, Beatty, Maddock, Price, Webb, and Campbell. The institute would greatly appreciate gifts of gramophones for placing on the ships. TOC H HOSPITALITY. The dance on Friday night in the Toe H rooms was thoroughly enjoyed by men of the Services. A ,good fire was burning in the lounge, and forj those who did not dance games were available. Supper was served by the girls of the club. After tea on Sunday, some of the men sat around the fire whilst others played games. The cakes, scones, etc., sent in by friends were 'much appreciated. THE CINDERELLAS. The Cinderellas were kept very busy during the weekend entertaining servicemen. The clubrooms were at tractively decorated with flowers and excellent fare was provided. Mrs. Allan and her orchestra provided music for dancing. SAILORS' SOCIETY'S GRATITUDE. In response to an appeal for boots and shoes for men who visit the Bri•;■ tish Sailors' Society rooms the society received quite a number of pairs for which they wish to tender their grateful thanks. On Thursday evening the visitors were entertained with a screening of films given by Mr. W. F. Curie. There was a social evening on Saturday and on both Saturday and Sunday a hot meal was served. Mr. W. Buchan of the Dunedin Society, conducted the service on Sunday and items were given by Miss Joan Goqday, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson and family, overseas visitors, and a member of the Petone Boys' Brigade. Hostesses were Misses E. Leminon and T. Dear. DANCING CLASSES. Dancing classes conducted by Miss Kathleen O'Connor for " non-dancers among men of the services have commenced at the Catholic Services Club. These classes are to"; be held every Saturday evening from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., and should prove extremely popular.
