SUPPORT FOR TROOPS

(Rec. noon.) RUGBY, June 8. An R.A.F. (Middle East) communique says: "In close support of our land forces, our fighters and bombers were in action throughout yesterday in the forward areas of Cyrenaica, operating in particular against enemy supply columns and armoured units in the Knightsbridge area. Numerous enemy vehicles were destroyed, and one MelO9 was shot down and other enemy aircraft damaged. "Benghazi and Martuba were raided and objectives at Messina were attacked on Saturday night.
"In the 24 hours ended at midday our fighters destroyed four MelO9's over Malta. One was shot down by anti-aircraft fire.
"Five of our aircraft are missing, it the pilots of three are safe." — O.W.
