A high tribute to the late Mr. W. P. Williams was paid by the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, at last night's meeting of the Lower Hutt City Council. Referring to Mr. Williams's work as secretary of the Mayor's, relief committee during ■ the depression years, Mr. Andrews said he had never met a man who had done more for his fellowmen. Mr. D. W. Mclntyre, of the head office staff of the National Service Department, has been appointed district man-power officer in the Hutt Valley, with headquarters at Lower Hutt. Mr. J. H. Gaustad, formerly of the Treasury Department, Wellington, who was in the Napier Hospital for some months, is now residing in Hastings. .The death has occurred of Mr. Geprge Sinclair, former lighthouse-keeper at Cape Brett, aged 59. As a youth he joined the Royal Navy and was in the Battle of Jutland. After the war he came to New Zealand and served in the lighthouse steamer Hinemoa. He subsequently was engaged in lighthouse work in many parts of the Dominion. From 1933 until the time of his death he was in charge of the lighthouse at I Kaipara Heads. He is survived by his | wife, four sons, and a daughter. Mr. J. P. J. Hanratty, of Auckland, has been appointed deputy chief postmaster at Hamilton. Mr. R. E. Price, chairman of the Waterfront Control Commission, returned to Wellington from Auckland today. Mr. A. G. Osborne, M.P., underwent an operation at the Auckland Hospital yesterday and is reported to be progressing satisfactorily. ! * Mr. E. , Zeisler, manager of the Hamilton branch of Dalgety and Company, Ltd., has been appointed manager of the firm's Timaru branch.
