UNION OF CHURCHES

TESTING THE FEELING

The proposal for a union of the Presbyterian, Methodist, and Congregational Churches of New Zealand is being placed befox'e those connected with the churches concerned, and indications are that it is meeting with strong support. The intention is that all interested should have an opportunity of indicating their attitude towards the proposal, and that will take time.

It is expected, however, that before the New Zealand governing bodies of the churches next meet the general result of the call for an expression of opinion on the subject of union will be known. That will serve as a guide to further action. If, as seems likely, the proposed basis of the union meets with general approval, measures will be taken to effect the union. Since the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, for one, does not meet until November, the union as proposed is not to be expected for some time.
