IMPROVED CONDITIONS

"Everything possible is being done to try and provide the huts and other buildings for the various camps," said the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) today, when referring to conditions in some of the newer camps. Mr. Jones said that great demands were being made on timber and labour resources and for that reason it had not been possible to comply with all the requirements of the camps throughout the Dominion.

"All our establishments, however," Mr. Jones continued, "are working at full speed in an endeavour, to meet the situation, and I am hoping that some of the conditions that exist will be remedied soon."

The Minister added that it had been hoped to get on with the work earlier, but, apart from the demands being made on timber and labour, the exceptional spell of bad weather had caused delays and had accentuated the position. The Government's desire was to complete the work, at the earliest possible moment and it was not for lack of authority that the additional buildings required had not materialised earlier.
