NEWTOWN SCHOOL

DEMOLITION WORK IN HAND

Another of Wellington's oLd landmarks, marking a point on the route through Wellington South to the eastern and southern districts of the city, has outlived the purposes for which it stood. Demolition squads are busy on the old Newtown School, which, after notable service.as an educational ihstiution, has in the past two years been turned in emergency to other needs, latterly for hospital purposes. Situated on the corner of Riddiford and Meiri. Streets, it was built in sections from 1881 to 1901, and was finally vacated as a school in 1940.
