U.S. EXPORT OF MEAT
DEHYDRATION TO SAVE SPACE
CHICAGO, June 5,
Revolutionary methods of saving shipping space by dehydration is her* aided by the packing industry with the disclosure that large-scale leadlease export of meat will commence soon. Simultaneously, it is reported that beef will be shipped to the American armed forces and the Allies.
This has heartened the cattle Industry, since hitherto exports have been confined largely to lard and pork. It is estimated that the new process will permit of the shipment in one vessel o£ a quantity equivalent to the cargo which ten ships carried 25 years ago. It is also estimated that one transport plane will carry enough meat to feed a division for a short period.
