CAPTIVES OF JAPAN

BEING WELL TREATED

(Rec. 10 a.m.) CANBERRA, May 18

The letters from prisoners of war dropped by Japanese planes over Port Moresby indicated that they were being well treated, said the Army Minister. Mr. F. M. Forde, today.

The Government, he added, had no reason to doubt the authenticity of the letters, which the military authorities believe were dropped lor propaganda purposes. However, the writers might not be able to express their real feelings.
