YUNNAN FRONT

FURIOUS BORDER BATTLE

(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.) (■Rec. 2.15 p.m.)

CHUNGKING, May 12,

A communique states that the Japanese have brought up reinforcements and are making a new attack on the Yunnan front.

The United' Press says, that a furious battle is raging on the border of China and Burma, following a 50-mile enemy retreat in Yunnan Province.

The Associated Press of Great Britain says that the arrival of Japanese reinforcements apparently has again converted the rearguard into an advance guard. Heavy fighting continues in the Chefang and Mangshih areas.

Tokio claims that Japanese vanguard troops crossed the Indian frontier at several points and that light Japanese forces have taken control of the coastal zone between Akyab and Chittagong.
