UNREST IN EUROPE

FRESH WAVE APPARENT

DRASTIC MEASURES BY THE

GERMANS

LONDON, May 12.

Signs of a new wave of unrest in occupied Europe are reflected in drastic measures the Germans are taking against the oppressed peoples.

In Paris today the Gestapo, under whose orders the French police are now working, ordered a cordon to be placed around the business area which embraces newspaper and insurance offices.

According to a Vichy message, this follows an outbreak of bomb-throw-ing in the fashionable hotel and restaurant area frequented mainly by the German army. So far there are no reports of the culprits having been found.

Free French headquarters in London states that during the past fortnight 17 clandestine leaflets have been found by the Gestapo, one of them signed by an anonymous committee of women calling on Parisians to organise for the liberation of the nation.

An official German announcement issued in the Netherlands says that 24 more Dutchmen were shot today and three more sent to prison. These men were said to be leaders of a secret organisation and to have carried on espionage. The latest executions are announced significantly two days after the second anniversary of the invasion of Holland.

According to a Stockholm message, all Dutch officers serving prior to the invasion of their country have been ordered to report to the German authorities by May 15.
