TRAINING WAR-DISABLED MEN

Australian soldiers who have returned from the war and through disability are unable to continue in the Army or in their former employment are being given vocational training by the Repatriation Commission to fit them for other positions. Already many soldiers are taking advantage of this free training, but the plans are as yet tentative, because the real scheme of rehabilitation is in its infancy.

Many former soldiers are going into munition works, and some who, through loss of limbs or illness, cannot go to munition works, are being given free education at technical schools and by correspondence to fit them for the occupation they desire.

While awaiting employment during training, the soldier receives a fortnightly payment of £4 4s, his wife receives £1 16s, and for each child 15s, but not exceeding £2 5s in the aggregate. Where the tools of trade are necessary the commission will give tools, to the value of £10 and, in special circumstances, will arrange inter-est-free loans up to £40.

Special training for blind soldiers is also being arranged.
