ESCAPE OF GIRAUD
GAOLERS' REVENGE
LONDON, May 2.
Vichy says that a special commission has arrived from Berlin with full powers from the Nazi Gestapo chief, Himmler, to investigate, on the spot, the circumstances of General Giraud's escape. ' Many arrests, especially of officers, have been made in the last three days in a French war prisoners' camp.
The Tass agency reports from Stockholm that 30 French officers in a prison camp were shot on suspicion of helping General Giraud to escape.
SABOTAGE GOES ON
NOT HALTED BY REPRISALS
LONDON, May 3,
A Vichy report says that 55 more French hostages have been executed at Lille as a so-called reprisal for the killing of two German soldiers, but the wave of anti-Nazi sabotage goes on, and 15 German soldiers were killed when a train was wrecked.
Another train was attacked on a line south of Paris, but Vichy does not give details of the outcome.
