EVIDENCE OF THRIFT

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 29. An increase in funds for the year of £987,500, an all-time record in the Auckland Savings Bank's history of nearly 100 years, was announced, by the president, Mr. E. Anderson, at the annual meeting of the Auckland Savings Bank trustees today. This brings the funds to £11.675,000, which, adds the report, "is an indisputable an«wer to the oft-repeated claim that thrift in our community is a forgotten virtue." Ordinary deposits exceed withdrawals of £536,000, which, with Interest, imakes a total increase for the year of £808,000, bringing depositors' balances to £10,000,000. National Savings deposits were much higher than last year and still better results were expected, Mr, Anderson said that the putting aside of savings and capital would assist in warding off the menace of Inflation and provide individual spending power in the future when national rehabilitation will be the primary objective. ■ . .

The annual roport .of the Dunedin Savings Bank showed that the year had been very sue-' cessful, with an Increase of £185,635 4s lid in the amount credited to depositors.
