"SERVICE THAT MUST BE KEPT GOING"

AUXILIARY RAISES FUNDS

_ A musicale in aid of the Wellington Free Ambulance funds was held yesterday afternoon at the Ambulance fetation by the ladies' auxiliary and attracted a large attendance. The programme was arranged by Mrs. J. I. tioldsmith and the performers included Mrs. Amy Woodward, Mrs. Wilfred Andrews, Mr. Norman Aitken, Miss Olga_ Burton, Mr. Val Jones, and Miss Urmi Reid, all of whom are well known on the concert platform. Their accompanists were Mr. Chas. McDonald and Miss Ormi Reid. Items that were particularly appreciated were Mr. Aitken's recitations, and his impersonation of Mr. Churchill giving his famous speech "We Will Never isurrender.

Donations and the sale of flowers and cakes helped to swell the proceeds, which were very satisfactory. Among those who provided flowers from their gardens were Misses O'Loughlin and Forrester, of Otaki. Mrs. Pither, of Masterton, and Mr. Max Plimmer and Mrs. E. P Hay, of Wellington. An excellent home-made tea was served, Mrs- D- "LMcGowan being the conven.er- The Official hostesses were Lady Norwood and Mrs. M. A. Searle. •i?m auxiliary continues to hold fortnightly bridge parties to augment the funds and at the first of these parties this year Lady Norwood and Mr. Kotte, the superintendent, welcomed w § la£F s,- Mr- Roffe stated that a lot ol effort was required to aid patriotic work, but the Free Ambulance service must be kept going.
