THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM
The following statement has been issued by the Acting Australian Trade Commissioner (Mr. J. L. Menzies):—
"Citizens of New Zealand and Australia today join in doing'homage to their brave sons who paid the supreme sacrifice in the last war. We must not lose sight of their heroic deeds in the midst of- this present great struggle, and,- as the war draws closer to our shores,. it behoves each and all of us as citizens of freedomloving countries to dedicate ourselves anew in the cause for which we fight— the fight for the restoration of decency in human relations, the fight to rid the world of tyranny and aggression, the fight to exorcise the Devil from our midst, the fight to bring peace on earth and good will towards all men.
"Australia jmd New Zealand are now more closely linked than ever in this great calamity which threatens to destroy our very existence, and this Anzac Day we will do well to remember the strong bonds of friendship and brotherhood which were firmly cemented in the last war. Australia and New Zealand .are destined to play an important■ role in the Pacific, but we can only strike a decisive blow at the enemy if we are determined to marshal the whole of our spiritual, moral, and material resources in this fight for freedom."
