LONDON, April 23. In Burma, following the recent withdrawal from Pinchaung, British troops have now withdrawn from Taunggwingyi. This was announced in a British Army communique from Burma which says that our forces have now been withdrawn from the Taunggwingyi area, where for a long time they held their positions and successfully protected our x Allies' flank. The communique adds that no reports had been received from the Chinese Expeditionary Force. Earlier today the Chungking spokesman reported that the main Japanese drive was now directed at the town of Loikaw, near the Siamese frontier. He said that this was an attempt to turn the Chinese left flank and to force the withdrawal of the Chinese forces further west holding the railway about Pyinmana'.
