STATE THEATRE. | Ellery Queen is a well-known character to thousands of readers of detective novels, but it is not so often that the public have the opportunity of studying his methods on the screen. Ralph Bellamy, takes the role of the great detective m the film, "The Perfect Crime," which is now showing at the State Theatre. In the leading •female role Margaret Lindsay is attractive and vivacious. The picture soon develops into an intriguing mys4 tery play with a wealth of suspense and excitement. The second feature is an attractive musical show, "Two Latins from Manhattan." starring Joan Dayis and Jinx Falkenburg. The production contains some catchy tunes and some particularly amusing sequences. Supports include a fine colour film showing some of Canada's mountain scenery. PARAMOUNT THEATRE. "Magnificent Obsession" and "Gas Bags" conclude tonight -at the Paramount Theatre. "The Garden of Allah," starring Charles Boyer, Tilly Losch, arid Marlene Dietrich, and "The Amateur Gentleman," starring Douglas Fairbanks, junior, and Margaret Lockwood, open tomorrow. ST. JAMES THEATRE. "Birth of the Blues," Bing Crosby, Mary Martin. OPERA HOUSE. "Adam Had Four Sons" concludes tonight at the Opera House. Judy Garland, perhaps the most popular youthful swing vocalist on the screen and radio today, stars with Allan Jones in • "Everybody Sing," which opens tomorrow at the Opera House. This film was most popular when it was first shown in Wellington, and there seems little reason why its popularity should have waned since that time. Many of the tunes have since become established favourites. PLAZA THEATRE. The Plaza Theatre will show "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" finally tonight. .. "Blood and Sand,", starring Tyrone Power, opens tomorrow. MAJESTIC. THEATRE. The Majestic Theatre will show "Honky Tonk"-.finally tonight.
