40-HOUR WEEK
AUSTRALIAN COAL MINERS
CANBERRA, March 25.
Coal-mining employees in all States except.Queensland have been awarded a 40-hour week under a judgment delivered today. The application of the award to Queensland is pending.
About 80 per cent, of the mine employees already enjoy a 40-hour week, but the remainder, mostly surface, workers, work 86 hours a fortnight? It is expected that the judgment will remove much unrest in the coal-mining industry.
