FIRE ORGANISATION

MINISTER IMPRESSED

Interested watchers of the working of the organisation at the Central Fire Brigade station during the emergency trjal yesterday were the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr. Parry), the chairman of the Wellington. Fire Board (Mr. S. S. Dean), the Chief Inspector of Fire Brigades of the Dominibn (Mr. R. Girling Butcher), and Mr. L. Glover, secretary of the New Zealand Fire Brigades Employees' Union.

The Superintendent of the Wellington Fire Brigades (Mr. C. A. Woolley) gave an explanation of the emergency fire-fighting organisation as the staff of firemen, telephone operators, and emergency area markers and instructors proceeded with their work.

"An insight into the comprehensive organisation at the central station was very enlightening," the Minister said later. "It was good to see the thoroughness, with which the trained men and young women assistants took up their allotted tasks whether their duty was at the switchboards, telephones, or at map marking. It was a busy scene. All were doing their work as if they had been engaged in it for many years. A high tribute to the organisers of this work and to those who carried it out is deserved. I wish to be among those who pay this tribute."
