VICEREGAL. Government House, Wellington, March 5. Wing Commander H. C. Bevan, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, has relinquished his appointment as Military Secretary and Comptroller of the Household to his Excellency the Gov-ernor-General in order to take up an appointment overseas. Captain C. J. Holland-Martin, Royal Fusiliers, has succeeded Wing Commander Bevan, and has been promoted to the rank of major.

Captain C. G. Baker, who died suddenly at Rakaia on Tuesday, was well known in Christchurch as a stockbroker and member of the Stock Exchange. He was educated at the Christchurch Marist Brothers' School and at St. Patrick's College, Wellington, where he was a member of the first fifteen. On his return to Christchurch, Captain Baker played for the Linwood Football Club and was a foundation member of the Marist Football Club. He was an early volunteer in the Great War, leaving New Zealand as a second lieutenant. He was wounded in France. On the outbreak of the present war he immediately volunteered and last yar attained the rank of captain. Captain Baker is survived by his wife.

Mr. R. W. Bothamley, J.P., of Porirua, has been appointed a Coroner.

Commodore W. E. Parry, C.8., Chief of the Naval Stafl', and Air Commodore R. V. Goddard, C.8.E., Chief of the Ai Staff, have returned to Wellington from Auckland.

The Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington, has returned from a viist to the South Island.

Mr. G. H. Stubbs has taken up his duties as senior inspector for the Wellington education district in succession to Mr. S. J.-Irwin, who has been transferred to Christchurch.

Mr. C. G. Camp, Wellington, has been appointed a member of the Industrial Emergency Council. The Minister of Labour stated yesterday that Mr. Camp's knowledge and experience in industrial matters would contribute substantially to the deliberations of the council.
