CORDIAL RELATIONS

N.Z. AND DOMINIONS SECRETARY

The following telegram has been sent by the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) to Mr. Attlee, the new Dominions Secretary, in reply to a message sent by Mr. Attlee to the New Zealand Government: —

"My colleagues and I have noted with great interest and warmly welcome your assumption of the seal of the Dominions Office, and we are convinced that the direct contact thus established between the . Dominions and yourself as Deputy-Prime Minister and a member of the War Cabinet must be advantageous. Our relations with the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs have always been of the most cordial and harmonious nature, and we are confident that our association with you will be to the mutual benefit of our two countries. We join with you in the fullest confidence that the British Commonwealth will emerge from the present struggle stronger and more united than ever before." '

"Will you allow me, on behalf of my colleagues and myself, to express to you on your relinquishing the seal of the Dominions Office our warm appreciation of the friendly and helpful collaboration that you have always extended to us throughout your term of office, and to wish you all good fortune in the new responsibility that you have assumed."
