R.A.F. RAID ON KIEL
VITAL AREA BOMBED
LONDON, February 26. The Bomber Command made a raid on Kiel last night.
The bombers had to fly through intense cold and banks of cloud to reach their target. Ice which formed on the propellers shot off and cut into the fuselage of the planes. The coastline was difficult to pick up, but the pilots were1 well rewarded, for Kiel showed up clearly out of a cloudless sky.
The bombers dropped load after load of heavy high-explosive bombs in the vital area of the naval base. Many explosions followed; and many fires were * raging in the dockyard when the bombers had. done their work.
There was one particularly red blaze, with huge clouds of smoke, showing that an oil depot was probably on fire Two of our planes are missing. :
