INJURED ON FLIGHT

LONDON, February 26

tt has been revealed in Washington that General Wavell was in Singapore during the last '36 hours that the island was in British hands. As he was leaving, his plane had a mishap, and General Wavell broke a rib, but it is known in London that his injury did not involve him in the loss of even one hour's duty.

Mr. H. L. Stimson, the United States Secretary of War, who gave the news of General Wavell's last-minute presence in Singapore, described the General as a man who had shown himself worthy of the -character of the troops he commands. ,
