The Federal Cabinet's decision to curtail horse and dog racing in Australia has been followed by restrictions on race broadcasts. It is estimated that the decision will divert £100,000 a week from racing.

While race clubs claimed they had observed the spirit of the Government's demand for less racing in wartime, they replaced midweek meetings with marathon Saturday programmes. Hours were then restricted, , but to squeeze in the lengthy programmes, the clubs ran off events at 20-minute intervals.
