Christchurch.—Desirous of playing their part in preparing for emergency certain members of the clergy in Christchurch will man picks and shovels and dig zig-zag trenches in Hagley Park to provide shelter for children from schools in the neighbourhood who might be evacuated to the park.—P.A. NAZIS DENY DESTRUCTION OF 16th ARMY. London. —The official German news agency issued a denial that the 16th German Army has been destroyed in the Staraya Russa area, and claimed a success by the Luftwaffe against the Russians. —U.P.A.
