THE HARD OF HEARING

#> NEW ROOMS FOR LEAGUE

The new rooms in Courtenay Place which are to be used by the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing were officially opened last evening by the Prime Minister. Mr. Fraser said that he had always followed with interest the activities of the league, and it would always be the policy of the Government to help such an organisation, especially as the branch had shown such enterprise and self-reli-ance. The spirit of determination shown by the league was what was needed throughout the national life today.

In thanking Mr. Fraser, Mrs. S. Mansfield, who presided, traced some of the history of the branch, and also paid a tribute to those whose indefatigable work had played a big part in securing and bringing to completion the present rooms. The branch was dependent on legacies, grants, and so on, and among the finest of these was an annual grant from the Government, which had taken a most sympathetic interest in the work of the league.

During the evening Mrs. G. A. HurdWood continued her series of lectures and some silent films were screened to illustrate her remarks. Musical items were also presented.

Shell fragments sent from London to America were auctioned and returned to Britain as a mobile tea car for air raid work.
