HELP TO OFFENSIVE

Russia has been heartened by the news of the recapture of Dorogobuj, which is situated at the junction of the roads from Elnia, Smolensk, and Vyazma, states a Moscow message. The roads are claimed to be more important in winter than the railways. A dispatch from the Dorogobuj sector says that the initiative is now in Russian hands. An intense battle is raging elsewhere in Smolensk Province with the retreating Germans continuing their policy of firing everything inflammable. It is reported from the southern front that one Russian division in the last four months has killed 18,000 Germans.
