VICEREGAL VISIT TO FEILDING
(P.A.)
FEILDING, This Day.
The Governor-General and Lady Newall paid an official visit to Feilding. They arrived last evening and were met by the Mayor, Mr. T. L. Seddon. The Home Guard, under Major Little, formed a guard of honour. A very large parade included the Home Guard, all sections of the E.P.S., Women's War Service Auxiliary, Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, Fire Brigade and Auxiliary, Boy Scouts, and Girl Guides. Their Excellencies inspected the whole parade, and later were entertained at an informal supper.
Today there was a civic welcome by the Mayor and Borough Council, County Council, and a representative of the Maori race. A very large gathering heard the loyal speeches. Their Excellencies were afterwards entertained at a civic luncheon, and left later.
The King was at prayer in his chapel at Buckingham Palace•; two hours before a bomb destroyed the place where he had been sitting. •
