STEADY EXPANSION

WASHINGTON, February 23
The steady expansion of the American armed forces was emphasised when President Roosevelt asked Congress for an additional appropriation of 597,000,000 dollars for clothing and equipment of the army.
This addition would increase the total for these items to 1,525,000,000 dollars.
A busy week is indicated, as Congress will take up the. Military Bill, carrying over 23,000,000,000 dollars for the War Department, 5,430,000,000 for Lease and Lend activities, and 3,852,000,000 for the acceleration of merchant ship construction.
