HALT IN PHILIPPINES
FIGHTING DIES DOWN
LONDON, February 22
In the Philippines, the Japanese have temporarily suspended operations. General Mac Arthur's report today is that fighting has died down on all fronts in Luzon, and that on the Batan Peninsula there was neither ground nor air activity in the previous 24 hours. Even the shelling of the American harbour defences which has been intermittent for several days has ceased entirely.
