CALL TO YOUTH

SUNDAY SERVICE

The main floor of the Town Hall was filled yesterday afternoon for the "Scouts' Own" service, as besides the Scouts present there were Girl Guides, and members of the Boys' Brigade, Girls' Life Brigade, and other youth movements. The gallery was well filled by the general public. Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Newall and the Mayor were present.

Hymns, which were announced by the Mayor, included "For Those in Peril" and "Onward, Christian Soldiers." Prayers were read by Captain J. Price (Girls' Life Brigade) and Mr. P. T. Smither (County Scout Commissioner). Mr. J. R. H. Cooksey (Dominion Scout Commissioner of Training) led in the Lord's Prayer. The New Testament Lesson was read by the Rev. W. Elliot and the Old Testament Lesson by the GovernorGeneral. The Benediction was pronounced by Mrs. Holmes, Provincial Commissioner Girl Guides.

The address was given by the Dominion Chiei Scout Commissioner (Mr. H. Christie), who said that as a rule a Scout service was conducted entirely by Scouts,'b'.U he welcomed the presence of members of the other organisations.

Tht service was especially one of intercession. They prayed thai they might do more useful work, that they might be more successful that they might have more ladies, boys, and girls linked up with them; thai they themselves might have a highe? conception of the ideals for which they stood.

They should try i* realise th& nature of God, and to develop themselves in the use of the gifts with which they wee endowed so that they could cultivate good will towards other people. The most real permanent, fact was God. ■! Beinf ovei all, apart from yel Ox the universe. If this world were blown up there . would still remain God in the heavens over all things, in all things, yet distinct from all things, not onJy supreme over all life, but making and supporting life, being present Himself in every living thing, so that time and space and Nature were the garments by which lie was seen. His love was seen in the beauty of the .flowers and the trees. It wa? He who awakened Nature in the spring. ...

Men were plsased to be associated with some great -mar* in some great project; why should they not be p'eased to have a part to play with God? Man was created because God required him to do things God would net do for us what we could do for
