FOE BOMBS MANDALAY
ANCIENT PALACES HIT
LONDON, February 20,
The first attack by Japanese planes on Mandalay, the ancient city of Burma, is reported by Reuters Rangoon correspondent. He says that Japanese bombers carried out a deliberate attack on the historic city and that the palaces of the ancient kings were among the buildings damaged. Other property also suffered.
Mandalay is on the railway from Rangoon to Lashio, the southern terminus of the Burma Road. Its population is 145,000.
