LATE NIGHT
ELIMINATION URGED
A motion advocating the elimination of the late shopping night in Welling-, ton in the interests of lighting restriction and black-out arrangements was passed at a meeting of the Wellington Shop Assistants' Union this week.
The motion is as follows:—
"That in view of the gravity of the war situation in the Pacific and the pressing need for the safeguarding of the life of the people, this general meeting of the Wellington Amalgamated Society of Shop Assistants strongly urges the Government and the Wellington civic authorities to immediately implement the provisions of the War Regulations in order to secure the immediate elimination of the late shopping night, the continual operation of which is obviously making a complete farce of the lighting restrictions and black-out arrangements. This meeting is further of the opinion that the hour for the closing of all shops should not be later than 5.30 p.m."
