SHELTERS IN SCHOOLS
HEADMASTERS' PROTEST
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A large meeting of the Auckland Headmasters' Association decided to telegraph the Minister of Defence expressing deep concern at the lack of adequate protective
measures for primary pupils
The telegram, which was forwarded on Monday last, stated: "The authorities' conflicting views regarding the dispersal of children along the roads to their homes, the unsatisfactory situation due to the uncertainty of the time available after the warning sirens, the lack of under-surface shelters at schools, especially in the danger areas, and- the non-existence of a completed evacuation scheme are factors that are causing grave misgivings."
The association urgently requested a cl unification of the situation, including a conference of the interests concerned. An urgent reply was requested.
Mr. Jones has replied stating that he has handed the telegram to the Minister of Man-power (Mr Semple) for hr; consideration.
