FISH HATCHERY

CLOSING POSTPONED

The closing down of all fish hatchery work till after the war, or until such time as petrol again became available both for the Masterton hatchery and for licence-holders, was recommended by the fish committee of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society last night.

After a full discussion, it was decided that a committee, consisting of the chairman (Mr. D. J. Gibbs) and Messrs. A. J. Seed, W. A. R. Jones, T. R. Boyes, and C. E. Aldridge, should go thoroughly into the costs and results of the hatchery, ascertain if ova could be obtained from the south if the hatchery were closed, and find out the letting value of the property.

A strong wish not to close down if possible was expressed. It was considered that the relaxed petrol restrictions, which had been announced since the fish committee met, might affect the position.
