FLIGHT LIEUT. EDMUNDS
Advice has been received of the death of Acting Flight Lieutenant Everest George Edmunds, D.F.C., reported killed on air operations. He was awarded the D.F.C. in November last for outstanding services during aerial attacks on enemy shipping in the Mediterranean, and was subsequently reported missing on air operations. He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Edmunds, 55 Hector Street, Seatoun, and is survived by one sister and four brothers, three of whom are serving in the Armed Forces. The late Flight Lieutenant Edmunds
was 25 years of age, and was born at Wellington and educated at the Seatoun primary school and at the Wellington Technical College. At the time of his enlistment he was employed by Spalding's, Ltd., Christchurch, and was keenly interested in sporting activities, being a member of the Canterbury team which won the A grade badminton championship in 1939. He was also a keen outdoor rifle shot, and an enthusiastic member of the Wellington South Miniature Rifle Club. He received his air training in New Zealand, passing out as a pilot officer, and proceeded to England in April of last year, and was immediately attached to a bomber squadron.
