FUNCTIONS OF MAN-POWER
COMMITTEE
The Mayor.has corrected a misstatement made with regard to the functions of the local, advisory committee on man-power published in this paper on bMoriday.
"It has' been made abundantly clear that the man-power, committee set up by the Minister and now meeting in Wellington is. in no .sense. whatever a general emergency shelter-committee," he said. "It has one function, and one .only. That is to make provision for the supply of, whatever man-power is required for carrying on the work.
"The\ policy arid nature of the works is entirely a matter, for control by the City Council, and nobody else. The committee is there to implement the undertaking, given through the Press, by the Minister and various trades union secretaries; that we had only to ask for the men to get them, and I am waiting for the committee to fulfil that undertaking."
