SINGAPORE SURRENDER

PROMISE TO COMMONS

LONDON, February 17.

After a lively hour of discussion in the House of Commons, Mr. Winston Churchill promised that the capitulation of Singapore would be fully discussed by the House in the near future.

Referring to the fall of Singapore, Mr. Churchill said that the possibility of such an event was included in the scope of his statement of three weeks ago.

He had no further information to give to the House and. he deprecated an immediate discussion on the; subject.

The Prime Minister, pleaded for a calm study of the extremely serious situation in the F&r East, and suggested' Othat the House might have a long and frank debate at a later date when he would be more prepared to make a statement.
