LONDON, February 16. A Reuter message from Curacao says that an enemy submarine last night shelled the island of Aruba in the Dutch West Indies. rhe submarine torpedoed three tankers and shelled the Standard Oil Company's refinery. i The refinery was very slightly damjaged, however^ and there were no casualties on the island. One tanker was torpedoed near the harbour of Willenstad On the island of Curacao. Although badly damaged, it has been saved. Aruba is the depot where oil is transferred into ocean-going tankers. It lies about 20 miles north of the coast of Venezuela and about 50 miles west of Curacao. Last week it was announced that the United States had sent troops to Curacao and Aruba to help the Netherlands armed forces to defend them.
