(Rec. 12.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, February 16. - Tokio Official radio described the Surrender of Singapore. It Was a terisb hour, said the radio dispatch. The first move was made by three officers bearing a white flag towards the Japanese lines.* Their proposals Were rejected and for two hours the Japanese continued their attack. Then General Percival, accompanied by Major C. fi. Wilde and other staff officers, motored towards the Ford plant and met . General Yamashita and other Japanese. Geribral Yamashita said: "I wish your replies to be brief and to the .point. I will listen brily to uncondi- . tional surrender. Have you captured afiy Japariese sbldiers." General Percival: None. General Yamashita: What about Japanese civilians? General Percival: All Who haVe beOri interned were sent to Iridia. Their lives are fully protected. General Yamashita: I Want to hear whether you wish to surrender. General Percival: Will you give me until tomorrow? Gbfieral Yamashita: I cariribt wait. Gbfteral PerCival: Give me five hours. General Yamashita: Theri we will continue to attack meanwhile. General Percival remained silent. General Yamashita insisted on an arisWer arid Gerieral Percival finally softly said: Yes.
